Career milestones will be affected by MLB’s shortened season.

Over the years, baseball has seen its fair share of monumental career milestones. From players that set a new baseball record to those that reached a figure few in the game’s history had ever hit, milestones are moments in baseball where players and fans pause to celebrate and appreciate the moment. Some are more significant than others because of the grand work that it took to even reach it, such as with Albert Pujols’ 3,000th career hit or CC Sabathia’s 3,000th career strikeout.

A multitude of active players is inching closer to reaching a landmark milestone in their career. If they are able to do so, it would surely bolster their Hall of Fame candidacy. But unfortunately, some of them might not get the opportunity to do so.

With MLB instituting a shortened 60-game regular season this year, it will certainly hurt those players who are extremely close to reaching a historic milestone. The loss of 120 games more so impacts those who are on the backend of their career with retirement on the doorstep and are inching away from reaching a milestone in their career.

These five milestones are prime examples of just that. All of these five players still have an opportunity to reach the historic achievement in their career, but the shortened season diminishes their chances of doing so and inevitably will force them to elevate their play in order to reach the specific number at hand.
