5. Florida bold predictions: Kyle Pitts is the best tight end in the nation

Kyle Pitts led the Florida Gators in receptions last year with 54 catches while adding 649 yards and five touchdowns. It was quite the season for the Pitts, and it led to him being named to the Biletnikoff Award watch list. That surprised a lot of people, but what didn’t surprise people was when he ended up on the John Mackey Award watch list.

Pitts is coming back with major expectations for the season. He’s already one of the top tight ends in the country, but there’s a chance he’s going to be the best. Pitts is already the top target of Kyle Trask, and he’s in an offense that was able to find its strengths all offseason. When the Gators look at this offense, two things stand out. Trask did a really good job taking to the position on almost no notice and Pitts has the makings of a really good playmaker.

Penn State’s Pat Freiermuth is probably his biggest competition in the nation. They both play in major conferences for teams that will go up against some of the best in the country. They will both have primetime games with a national audience. So, they both have a chance to step up.

Pitts will come out on top, however, because he’s already had a better season than his counterpart. Building off his big 2019 means a bigger piece of Florida’s offensive pie. Last season, he had one 100-yard performance, which just happened to come against the eventual National Champion in LSU.

This season, he’d have to do it more often. He’ll also have to score against the biggest competition. Last season, his touchdowns came against Towson, Tennessee, South Carolina and Vanderbilt. To become the best tight end, he needs to step up with scores in the biggest games of the season, especially against LSU and Georgia.
