Can Florida make the playoff if Kyle Trask has a Heisman-caliber season?

It’s obviously not a conventional offseason in college football. The Florida Gators might be in the best position in the SEC. Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi State, Arkansas (who took Florida transfer Feleipe Franks) and defending transfer LSU are all starting new quarterbacks.

In a season where practices were done mostly on Zoom, it’s not the best time to name a new signal-caller. The Florida Gators are not in the same position.

Kyle Trask is back after taking over for Franks last season. He’s the best quarterback in the SEC, and not many people will argue otherwise. There is a considerable gap at the most important position in college sports. That makes Florida a team to watch in the SEC. LSU came out of nowhere last season to not only dominate the conference but also win a National Championship. Could Florida do the same with Trask running the show?

When it comes to schedule, Florida is pretty lucky. They avoid Alabama, Texas A&M, and Auburn completely unless they meet in the SEC Championship game. This sets itself up for quite the season in Gainesville.

When it comes to making predictions for the Gators, this season can go one of two ways. They can make a move for the top of the conference for the first time since the Tim Tebow era, or they can be quite the disappointment. Either way, it’s not going to be like recent seasons. We don’t see the Gators ending up between the No. 5 and No. 20. They are either fighting for a spot in the College Football Playoff, or this is a team with multiple losses in a season that will likely have a shorter schedule.
