2020 Los Angeles Dodgers projected starting rotation

Clayton Kershaw, LHP (16-5, 3.03 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 189 K in 178.1 IP)
Walker Buehler, RHP (14-4, 3.26 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 215 K in 182.1 IP)
Julio Urias, LHP (4-3, 2.49 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 85 K in 79.2 IP)
Alex Wood, LHP (1-3, 5.80 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, 30 K in 35.2 IP with CIN)
Ross Stripling, RHP (4-4, 3.47 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 93 K in 90.2 IP)
Kenley Jansen, RHP (5-3, 3.71 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 80 K in 63 IP, 33/41 saves)

Kershaw has missed a few starts in each of the last two seasons, but his stats are still elite. He has averaged a 2.44 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in his career. Averaged. You know what you’re getting with Kershaw. He’s still worth a top 20 draft pick, especially in a truncated season.

Buehler shouldn’t go that far behind Kershaw. The ERA is a bit higher, but not by much. The rest of the numbers are right up there with Kershaw. He’s a strong first or second starter for your fantasy squad.

Wood struggled with the Reds, but now returns to where he had good success. There’s reason to be optimistic about Urias as well. Urias is still just 23 years old. I like Urias in the middle of my rotation. Wood is worth taking to round out your rotation in the middle of your draft.

Stripling is remarkably solid. He doesn’t have great numbers, but they are good enough for your last starter’s slot. Stripling is better than a streaming option in every standard league.

Jansen had his worst ERA of his career by 0.70 runs last year, but the ratios are still elite. He should still be one of the first closers off the board.

Prospects to watch:

Dustin May posted a 3.63 ERA in 14 appearances with the Dodgers last year, so there’s a chance that he makes it into the rotation soon. His ratios are good enough to use him in standard leagues anyway while he’s waiting on a starting slot to open up.

Josiah Gray, the prospect the Dodgers stole from the Reds in the Wood deal in December of 2018, could be worth a roster slot as well. He has nasty stuff and should provide good ratios whether he starts or not.

The Dodgers will probably use Brusdar Graterol out of the bullpen this year, but his 2.48 ERA in 1.07 career WHIP in the minors shows that he can be dominant out of the bullpen as well. If he makes the team and the Dodgers use him regularly, he’ll help pad your ratios and strikeout totals.

Tony Gonsolin posted a 2.93 ERA in 40 major league innings last year. He’s ready too, but he lacks the strikeout upside of the three in front of him. All four of these guys are in the top six of Dodgers prospects, so expect to see quite a bit of each of them.
