New York Mets pitcher Marcus Stroman is angry with Joe Kelly’s eight-game suspension

Major League Baseball dropped a bomb of news on Wednesday when it was announced Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Joe Kelly had been suspended eight games for his role in the benches-clearing melee that took place on Tuesday night.

In a shortened 60-game season, being suspended for eight contests is the equivalent of being handed a 22-game suspension in a normal campaign. As you might understand, Dodgers fans were furious once they saw the news. They weren’t the only ones, though.

Multiple MLB players have voiced their displeasure with the league’s decision. This includes star New York Mets hurler Marcus Stroman, who took to Twitter to let everyone know how upset he is with the decision.

Joe Kelly was at the center of the benches-clearing melee between the Dodgers and Astros

Not only did Stroman back Kelly in the tweet above, but he also threw some shade at the Astros players for not being punished at all.

“He wasn’t even thrown out of the game,” Stroman wrote in part of his Twitter post. “MLB siding with/protecting a team that openly and knowingly cheated their way to a World Series. He doesn’t deserve to be suspended at all.”

Kelly received his suspension after he first threw at Alex Bregman, then followed that up by going after Carlos Correa later in the inning. The Dodgers pitcher ended up striking out Correa in that same at-bat, then told him, “nice swing (expletive).” Per Dusty Baker, that insult sent things over the top for Correa and the benches cleared soon after.

Kelly is appealing his suspension. If MLB decides to stick to its guns and sideline him for eight games, you can expect even more negative feedback to come rolling in.
