10 greatest Green Bay Packers of all time
6. Herb Adderley, CB
The Green Bay Packers have certainly had their share of star defensive players throughout the years. This list doesn’t include the likes of safety Willie Wood, linebacker Dave Robinson and defensive lineman Willie Davis.
But it does include start cornerback Herb Adderley, a standout at Michigan State University and the 12th overall pick by the franchise in 1961. He would wind up being a member of six NFL title teams, five with the Packers and one with the Dallas Cowboys. The Pro Football Hall of Fame cornerback finished his magnificent career with Tom Landry’s team, picking off nine passes with three seasons with the club and earning a Super Bowl ring in 1971.
With the Packers, Adderley was truly a ball hawk. Nine seasons in Green Bay produced 39 interceptions and 13 fumble recoveries. He took back seven of those aforementioned picks for scores. The 12-year NFL performer was a five-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro, all with the Pack. Adderley also intercepted five passes in 15 postseason tilts with the two organizations, four of those in nine playoff games with the Pack – including a 60-yard return for a score in the 33-14 victory over the Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl II.
