1. Chidobe Awuzie

The Cowboys lost Byron Jones to the Miami Dolphins this offseason and now they’re left without a shutdown cornerback. They took Chidobe Awuzie in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Colorado and he rewarded them with two solid seasons in Big D.

Awuzie started six games as a rookie and made an impact whenever he was on the field for Dallas. Year two saw him start 14 games as he recorded 71 tackles and 11 defensed passes while hauling in an interception.

For whatever reason, Awuzie struggled a little more in 2019 despite starting all 16 games. He had a career-high in tackles and passes defensed, but wasn’t on the field as much as he had been the previous year despite being a starter.

With no other true lockdown corner on the roster, it’s crucial for Chidobe Awuzie to play like he did in 2017 and 2018, or else the Cowboys secondary is going to get torched frequently this year.

It’s also important for the Colorado product to show out because he’s on the final year of his rookie deal. If he plays well, he could either play his way into an extension with Dallas or land elsewhere on a big contract.

The 2020 season is huge for Awuzie and if he can play like he did his first two years, the Cowboys will be thrilled.
