NBA DFS picks August 7: Shake your Milton
By Mike Marteny
NBA DFS forward plays:
The Sixers are going to try to do everything they can to avoid Boston in the first round, so they’re still actively trying to win even if the product on the court may not show it. Embiid is still going to go all-out here and may have the best upside on the entire slate.
Don’t look for Boston and Toronto to give too much away. They should meet each other in the playoffs at some point in the very near future. The only one I’m considering in this game for NBA DFS purposes is Daniel Theis. He has been noticeably better in the bubble, but his price is also to the point where he needs a ceiling game to sniff 6x value. That likely wont happen against Toronto.
Zion Williamson is still on an unstated minutes limit. Don’t even think about paying for him. You’re not being sneaky. It’s just throwing money away with his price as high as it is. Find the extra money for Brandon Ingram or pay down at PF. It’s thin on both sites.
Jonas Valancuinas soaked up much of JJJ’s production. That should continue, but I honestly prefer Thomas Bryant in that price range. Bryant has been unstoppable the last three games, but he’s going to have his hands full with Favors. Favors might finally knock him out of the 40’s but he’ll still be worth the price.
I still think Brandon Clarke comes in at high ownership today, but it wont feature me. Memphis didn’t play well with him starting. He could end up ceding minutes to veteran Anthony Tolliver. If you can stomach it, Tolliver is minimum price on both sites, and will be seeing more minutes.
There’s value to be had in Orlando with both Gordon and Isaac out, but where? I tend to think they go small and start Terrence Ross, so he’s definitely worth a look. Beyond that, many are going to bark up the Khem Birch tree. I think I prefer James Ennis. Birch is way too stationary to try and deal with Horford. Ennis is a bit undersized, but he matches up much better with Horford. Just pay the extra $700.
Despite the whole Kings team putting on offensive clinics lately, Richaun Holmes has been mostly a bystander. The Nets are still terrible against centers. Holmes is a big risk, but this could be the game where he busts loose.
There’s plenty of value to be had, but do we even need it? Beyond Embiid, there’s little worth paying up for since Zion’s 24 minutes of court time eats into everyone else’s stats but not their prices. Treat this just as you would the end of the NBA season. Target the teams with the most to play for and go from there.
