Fantasy Football breakout players: NFC South
It’s no secret…the Carolina Panthers won’t be good this year. There won’t be many reasons to watch them play besides Christian McCaffrey. Let’s talk about one of their up and coming WR’s: Curtis Samuel.
Choosing a breakout player on the Panthers wasn’t easy. Christian McCaffrey is a fantasy superstar. Then you have, in my opinion, an overrated/over-ranked DJ Moore. And then there is Curtis Samuel.
Curtis Samuel (currently ranked as: WR51): Let’s be honest, you’re probably not winning a championship with Curtis Samuel as a starter on your team…unless you play in a 18 team league, then maybe. But, I had to choose someone on the Panthers and he came to mind. Curtis finished as WR36 last year with a hobbled Cam Newton and Kyle freaking Allen as his quarterbacks. Come on now, that’s at least somewhat impressive. But now he is being drafted significantly below where he finished even with an upgrade at the QB position? Do people seriously think Robby Anderson will take that many targets away from him? As a Jets fan, I know Robby isn’t that good. He just runs straight and that’s about it.
The Panthers like what they have in Curtis Samuel. That can be seen by them giving him 19 carries last year. They want to get the ball in his hands and let him use his speed to his advantage. Teddy Bridgewater’s game favors a WR like Curtis, not Robby Anderson. Curtis will see plenty of check-downs and short passes to keep drives moving. While I don’t expect Curtis to be a top 20 WR, I do expect a substantial return of value on drafting him, which is what you strive for in every pick you make. Gimme some Curtis Samuel in the last rounds of my draft.
Last but not least, the New Orleans Saints.
