The Boston Bruins finally get their first win inside the Toronto bubble

Prior to the NHL’s pause to the season caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the Boston Bruins were arguably the best team in the league. But once they entered the Toronto bubble weeks ago, the Bruins couldn’t get a single win in their round-robin games.

On Wednesday, the Bruins finally got their first “W” at the expense of the Carolina Hurricanes in their first-round matchup in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Hours after the insane five-overtime contest between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Columbus Blue Jackets, the Bruins and Canes took a 3-3 tie into double overtime. They fell three extra periods short after center Patrice Bergeron took a cross-ice, backhanded pass from winger David Pastrnak and shot it past Carolina goaltender Petr Mrazek to give the Bruins the 4-3 victory.

Playing in overtime is the new trend in the NHL

Better late than never, right?

The Bruins and Hurricanes were originally supposed to play Game 1 on Tuesday night, but that all changed due to the extended Tampa Bay-Columbus contest. Ironically, the Washington Capitals and New York Islanders were supposed to begin their first matchup at 3 p.m. ET on Wednesday, but will now play at 4 p.m. ET to wait until the ice is cleared and benches are disinfected before they can begin.

Things looked pretty bleak for the Bruins, but now they carry some much-needed momentum heading into Game 2 on Thursday night.
