4 teams that should call the Chargers about Melvin Ingram
The Seahawks swooped in and made a trade for Jamal Adams, with no safety net of a contract extension that will keep him around long-term. With few major needs, a full-on push into win-now, Super Bowl or bust, mode with a well-reasoned (if a bit risky) addition or two is surely on the radar in Seattle.
The Seahawks seem to have moved on from the idea of bringing Jadeveon Clowney back. But they are firmly in the market for an edge rusher, with rumored interest in Everson Griffen before he signed with the Dallas Cowboys and Clay Matthews reportedly on the radar recently.
Seattle is carrying a shade over $15 million in cap space right now. With Ingram’s $14 million base salary becoming fully guaranteed as a practical matter come Week 1, they’d have to do a little money moving to make his full cap hit fit. Trading a player to the Chargers in a deal for Ingram would obviously make it a bit easier.
The Seahawks stand to benefit from continuity in this unique season. Striking while the iron is uniquely hot means making calculated moves, and a call to the Chargers about Ingram is simply good due diligence.
