If you ever wanted to discuss books with one of your favorite NBA stars, you’re going to be very excited about this Stephen Curry news.
Advances in technology and social media have broken down so many barriers between athletes and fans, building real connections. Players are breaking their own free-agent news, writing their own features on sites like The Player’s Tribune and sharing their daily lives on Instagram. Now, they’re also willing to read and discuss some books with you.
Today, a new literary startup called Literati, announced that they’d be partnering with Stephen Curry to host a new online book club. Per the press release:
"Stephen Curry’s club Underrated is an exploration of what it means to break barriers. It will include powerful stories of people — from sports to social justice — who defy the odds to achieve true greatness. “I’m excited to launch a book club that aims to highlight the journeys and triumphs from storytellers who have too long been overlooked,” said Curry. Adding, “I’ve been intentional and really thoughtful about my picks to ensure the club is inclusive of diverse perspectives from women, people of color, and other underrated voices.”"
How do I sign up for Stephen Curry’s book club?
The club doesn’t begin until Oct. 1 but sign-ups begin today. According to Literati:
"“Book clubs are priced at $24.95 per month, and members will receive a print copy of their luminary’s book selection each month along with a note and special packaging. They will also be first in line to access Literati’s community’s iOS app. Currently in beta, the Literati app is a platform for members and luminaries to connect and exchange ideas about each book. The app will be in limited release when clubs launch in October.”"
No word yet on whether Warriors’ books like The Victory Machine or Beta-Ball will be on Steph’s reading list.
