Ravens safety Earl Thomas responded to news of his camp fight via Instagram on Saturday

Baltimore Ravens safety Earl Thomas responded to news of his training camp fight with a teammate via Instagram on Saturday, trying to shed some light on his reasoning and “clear the air” after the story broke.

Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the team sent Thomas home after he fought teammate Chuck Clark, and some have speculated that the incident could end with the former Seahawk being released.

Thomas responded by saying that a mental error on his part was the root cause of the fight, and that he let his frustration get the best of him. Thomas continued that “this has been one of my best camps,” and lamented his loss of reps after being dismissed from practice.

This is not the first time that Thomas has made news for the wrong reasons this offseason, after news leaked of him being held at gunpoint by his wife after she discovered that he was having an affair, per TMZ.

With the Ravens running a tight ship and facing lofty expectations in 2020, it would not be surprising to see general manager Eric DeCosta move on from Thomas if he truly thinks that he will be a problem in the locker room.

As Pelissero stated, the former All-Pro’s dismissal from practice buys the organization some time to deliberate on his future, but Thomas is no longer the same elite presence as he once was. While he is still one of the NFL’s better safeties, cutting him may be the proper direction for a Ravens team which is already loaded with talent.

Head coach John Harbaugh likely will not tolerate players fighting with each other, and with Thomas taking responsibility for the confrontation, he may have to face the consequences.
