Dwayne Haskins, Washington Football Team

So much has changed in the nation’s capitol since Dan Snyder’s club drafted Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins with the 15th-overall pick in 2019.

The team has a new head coach (Ron Rivera), a new defensive cornerstone (Chase Young), and even a new team name – the Washington Football Team. That does not, of course, mean that it is all over for Haskins.

However, Haskins has nothing on his resume to merit time and patience. There are also two viable starting quarterbacks competing to lead the Football Team in front of the former Buckeye: Kyle Allen and Alex Smith.

Allen seemingly came out of nowhere to take over the Carolina Panthers starting job a season ago. Rivera traded his new club’s fifth-round pick for Allen, a sure sign he trusts and appreciates his abilities at the position.

Smith, famously, is 21 months removed from one of the more gruesome leg injuries the league has ever seen. The fact that he has now been cleared for all football activities, and is competing for a starting job, is a miracle.

Either Smith or Allen could take the starting job from Haskins this season – so he’s a likely candidate to be benched.
