4. Antonio Brown
Brown might be a little higher on this list if the expectation wasn’t that he’d miss eight games due to suspension. There’s also the reality that he might have more off the field issues than anyone else in the league.
Even so, dynamic wide receivers with Brown’s talent aren’t often available on the open market. The idea that he can be signed for free at this point in the NFL calendar makes him an interesting potential acquisition from teams that believe they can be Super Bowl contenders.
No team should sign Brown without significant contingency plans in place. His mercurial nature means he could leave any team at any time. It also means any team that inks Brown needs to have a strong locker room in place. The presence of some strong veterans could help defuse issues with Brown before they begin.
Brown’s best bet to catch on with a team this season will be to take over for a big-name receiver that suffers a significant injury right about the time he’s due to become eligible. Don’t look for Brown to find a home anytime soon, but he could be a tempting midseason addition for a team that wants to add one more dynamic playmaker to their offense.
