Mike Evans may be out Week 1 for the Buccaneers when they play the New Orleans Saints.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are easily the most intriguing team in the NFL this season. Tom Brady is in at quarterback and is joined by Rob Gronkowski as both look to add further accolades to their legendary careers.

Brady is also taking over an offense that features star receivers in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. A full squad makes the Bucs a legitimate Super Bowl contender. That is the key, however, as Evans may already be missing Week 1 as he recovers from an injury. Head coach Bruce Arians revealed the receiver’s status is still unknown as of now with what is being described as a soft tissue injury.

Losing Mike Evans would be an early setback

Evans has never finished a season with fewer than 1,000 receiving yards. He had 1,157 in only 13 games last season and he has racked up a total of 48 touchdowns since making his debut in 2014. Losing him for Week 1 would be a major concern against the Saints and questions would come up on if playing him at any point will aggravate this existing injury.

Losing Evans would make Godwin the top target this Sunday. Tight ends Gronkowski and O.J. Howard would also have to play a larger role and would also get more attention from the defense.

Godwin finished last season with 1,333 yards. After Evans, the next closest receiver still on the team was Scotty Miller with 200 yards.

Evans is a key feature in any game preparation and losing him could derail the team with any other quarterback in charge. Having Brady leading the offense should help stabilize the unit no matter who is on the field at receiver.

The receiver’s status is still day-to-day and his name will be one to keep an eye on leading up to Sunday.
