DraftKings U.S. Open picks: $10,000+ range

Dustin Johnson, $11,500 – The now-reigning FedEx Cup champion, Dustin Johnson has been on a magnificent heater. He finished second at the PGA, won THE NORTHERN TRUST, went second at the BMW, then won the Tour Championship. You have to pay up but no one in the world is hotter right now.

Jon Rahm, $11,000 – Having said that about DJ, Jon Rahm isn’t that far behind. He won the Memorial, was top-15 at the PGA, sixth at THE NORTHERN TRUST and then beat Johnson in a playoff at the BMW. For a $500 discount, he might be just as good of a top-tier play as DJ.

Justin Thomas, $10,700 – People love JT in majors and for good reason. But though he turned it on a bit to finish second at the Tour Championship, Thomas has been a bit pedestrian of late, especially with the putter. With the greens at Winged Foot, he’s a tepid fade for me in the U.S. Open.

Rory McIlroy, $10,500 – There was no one hotter in golf prior to the shutdown than Rory. But since the restart, things have been shaky at best. Outside of the Tour Championship, he has no top 10s and has been outside the top 30 in six of eight tournaments. It’s hard because of how talented he is but, like Thomas, McIlroy is a fade for me.

Xander Schauffele, $10,100 – It’s still expensive, but you have to love the play here. Schauffele is an uber-talented big-game hunter. He finished 10th at the PGA and was top 25 in each of the playoff events. His game is suited here as a well-rounded player and he could win his first career major.

Collin Morikawa, $10,000 – The reigning PGA champion, we saw what Morikawa is capable of on a big stage and how valuable his iron play can be on a course with tough rough. Having said that, the U.S. Open is a different beast. While I’m not saying outright fade the youngster, I’m saying I probably won’t have him in any of my lineups, especially with Schauffele just $100 more expensive.
