Freddie Freeman is on the short list for NL MVP

The Braves lineup has been arguably the best and most consistent in baseball over the course of this 60-game shortened season, more than making up for their porous pitching staff. The catalyst of that offense is Freddie Freeman, whose numbers are MVP-caliber and then some. Freeman would be a surefire All-Star and arguably the frontrunner for the award just about any other season, but less games makes for more conflated stat lines. Because of this, Freeman might get overlooked by the BBWAA. Chipper Jones wants to make sure that never happens.

Freeman’s numbers, both advanced and basic, scream elite. His defensive prowess makes him one of the best first baseman in all of baseball, and a perennial gold glove candidate.

Chipper Jones is doing what he can to spread the good word of Freeman

Chipper’s voice has some sway in the baseball community, as he’s enshrined in Cooperstown and one of the best players in Braves franchise history. He’s surely biased but in this case he’s not letting that confound his vision. Freeman’s stats speak for themselves.

Say it a little louder for the people in the back.

Without Freeman, it’s safe to say this Braves team would be struggling. The rotation has been mired with injuries to the likes of Mike Soroka, Cole Hamels and even more recently Max Fried. While the latter two should be ready to go when the postseason starts in a few weeks, they wouldn’t be in this position were it not for the consistency and explosiveness of Freeman.

That body of work should be rewarded, if Chipper has his way.

Next. Freddie Freeman’s lack of MVP buzz is a crime against baseball. dark
