4. Atlanta Falcons

The odds were stacked against the Falcons topping either the Saints or Buccaneers in the NFC South this season. Dropping to 0-2 should end any hope Atlanta actually had of making the postseason.

The franchise’s focus now should change towards evaluating Dan Quinn. Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys was inexcusable. It’s hard to form a cogent argument that Quinn should continue to preside over the team moving forward. Fortunately for him, owner Arthur Blank wants to avoid making a change during the season if at all possible.

The mental damage from the Cowboys loss greatly increases the chances of Atlanta totally capitulating as the season goes along. The offense should continue to be productive with Matt Ryan and Julio Jones leading the way, but the defense could turn out to be one of the worst units in the league if they lose their focus.

In some ways, it might be better for the Falcons to bottom out and make a complete regime change in the offseason. Quinn definitely needs to be replaced. An infusion of a high draft pick might improve the team’s chances to bounce back in 2021.
