Alvin Kamara scored the first touchdown in Allegiant Stadium history.

After hopping between Oakland and Los Angeles for 60 years, the Raiders opened up their brand new stadium in Las Vegas on a Monday Night matchup against the New Orleans Saints. In keeping with the tradition they’ve established since 2003, they’ve found themselves in an early hole.

It was a Saints player who scored the first touchdown in Las Vegas history, as running back Alvin Kamara put New Orleans up 10-0 in the first quarter by plunging it in from close range. Derek Carr’s struggles against the New Orleans pass rush helped the Saints take over with solid field position. A nice catch-and-run from Tre’Quan Smith helped put New Orleans in position to take the lead.

Alvin Kamara could be in for a big day against the Raiders

Kamara, who just received a massive contract extension in the offseason, should be in for an increased workload today after star wide receiver Michael Thomas was ruled out for several weeks due to an ankle injury. Luckily for New Orleans, the offense appears to be humming along just fine.

The defense is once again going to be the question mark for the Raiders this season, as their offense stands out as one of most intriguing in the AFC. Allowing Kamara and Drew Brees to march right down the field with minimal, if any, resistance is certainly a suboptimal way to set the tone in primetime.

Rather than coming out and dominating in their brand new palace, Josh Jacobs and the Raiders find themselves in a double-digit hole before the end of the first quarter. Hopefully, this defense manages to buck up in the near future. If they don’t their grand home opener could turn into a blowout.

Next. Can Josh Jacobs keep carrying them?. dark
