The Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs dropped the overmatched Baltimore Ravens on Monday Night Football, 34-20. The game was much-anticipated but didn’t live up to the billing in terms of excitement. Why? At this juncture, the Chiefs are a flat-out better football team.

After a kickoff-return touchdown by Ravens rookie Devin Duvernay in the second quarter of the Monday night showdown, dealings went pear-shaped for Baltimore. The Chiefs would not stop scoring, and Jackson could not return the haymakers that pummeled his team. That’s typically a recipe for a loss.

Ergo, the Ravens fell to 2-1 on the season, Jackson had a pedestrian night by his gargantuan standards, and last year’s MVP slides down to No. 5 on the MVP Stock Watch. If last year is any indicator, Jackson will probably bounce back mightily. But for this week, his team’s loss and his numbers do not merit a designation higher than the rest of the MVP field.

Baltimore seeks to avenge its home loss to the Chiefs by traveling to the nation’s capital for a date with the Football Team in Week 4.
