Cornerback Byron Jones

Sticking with defense, the secondary for Dallas has been an absolute nightmare through the first four weeks of the season. You’ve seen the likes of Russell Wilson, Mayfield and others put up huge numbers, while posting video game-type numbers against the Cowboys.

Byron Jones is now with the Miami Dolphins, but boy, would Jones and Dallas love to have him in town right now instead of watching him make plays with Miami. Jones spent the first five years of his career with Dallas, earning Pro Bowl honors in 2018.

This offseason, however, he signed a deal at the time that made him the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL, with the Dolphins giving him $82.5 million over five years. With Dallas having to lock up other key players, they simply could not afford to give Jones that kind of a contract.

With that being said, Jones is paid so much because he’s an incredible talent. Not only is he a stud defensive back, but he’s quite the leader whenever he’s on the field as well. The Dallas defense feels like it doesn’t have an identity at times, with no one really stepping up to be the leader of the unit. Jones could have been that guy for Dallas if he was still making plays for them defensively.

Instead, Cowboys fans have to watch him suit up for the Dolphins on Sundays and showcase his ballhawk ways. If he was with Dallas, things would be quite different for the defense this campaign.
