Derek Carr made Raiders history despite loss to Buffalo
Derek Carr cemented himself in Raiders history with a new record set Sunday.
Derek Carr has been the starting quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders since he was drafted back in 2014. He has not seen a ton of success, but the longevity leads to the possibility of setting franchise records.
Carr is already the franchise’s all-time leading in passing yards and set another record Sunday. He finished the day against the Buffalo Bills with two touchdown passes. That leaves the quarterback all alone atop the leaderboard for touchdown passes in Raiders history.
Derek Carr passes Ken Stabler
Passing Ken Stabler on any list is impressive. His total of 150 passing touchdowns was just two ahead of Daryle Lamonica. But Carr passing the two was only a matter of time given the current ways of the NFL. He set this new record before even playing in his 100th game. It took Stabler 130 games to set his mark of 150 touchdowns.
Carr was taken in the second round of the 2014 draft and the hope was he could blossom into the franchise quarterback. Being the regular starter for the seventh straight season is an accomplishment, however, it would not be a shock for the Raiders to move on soon. The quarterback is under contract through 2022 and his dead cap value drops to $2.5 million next season.
Carr may not be the franchise savior to lead the team to a Super Bowl title. That still doesn’t take away from all his accomplishments. It will take a true franchise quarterback in Las Vegas to ever compete with Carr atop those passing leaderboards.
Sunday’s loss against Buffalo was not on Carr. He went 32/44 for 311 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. The Raiders had a tough time running the ball and also struggled stopping Josh Allen.
The team is no 2-2 and still in the hunt for the playoffs through the one-quarter mark of the season. This may be Carr’s last year to prove himself worthy and continuing to set records should mean he is on the right track.
