Jamal Adams is out for the Seahawks this week, but he’s still supporting his team from home

Adams was acquired in arguably the biggest trade of the offseason, which was meant to solidify the Seahawks secondary. Instead, Adams has been hampered by injury to start the 2020 season, and Seattle’s secondary has suffered as a result.

Ryan Neal and others behind Adams have helped step in during his absence. However, this is the same Seahawks defense that got carved up by Cam Newton and the New England Patriots just two weeks ago. Without Adams in the lineup, his acclimation to the unit has been delayed to a point where it’s actively hurting his development in Seattle.

At the very least, Adams is far happier than he ever was as a New York Jet.

Do the Seahawks have anything to worry about with their early-season defensive struggles?

Not in particular. The Seahawks remain in control in the NFC West, and outside of the resurgent Los Angeles Rams, their competition has exposed itself as far weaker sides. The Arizona Cardinals lost to the lowly Detroit Lions at home last week, while the San Francisco 49ers cannot remain healthy thanks to back-to-back trips to MetLife Stadium.

Russell Wilson is having an MVP season with perhaps the best start through four games in NFL history. Once Adams is able to get back into the fold, the defense should finally take shape, even if they have to live in the shadow of the “legion of boom” units of old.
