Odell Beckham, Jr. turns on burners on insane reverse TD to extend Browns lead
By Mark Powell
Have a day, Odell Beckham, Jr.
OBJ scored his third touchdown of the day, this time on more trickery from Kevin Stefanski. Beckham, Jr. was handed the ball on a reverse and one Cowboys defender already in his face. Not only did OBJ get the edge, but he turned on the burners to speed upfield and put the Browns back up double-digits.
This play should’ve been dead in the backfield, but once Beckham got past Aldon Smith it was over. The Browns were in the process of blowing a 27-point fourth quarter lead, and it’s safe to say that if Beckham were caught in the backfield it would have set up yet another Cleveland three-and-out. Instead, the Browns were saved by Beckham, Jr. to increase their lead to a safe distance for now, as the Cowboys scored 24 points in just over eight minutes.
Beckham has wanted to ball more consistently for weeks. Finally, Stefanski delivered more opportunities not just for him, but teammate Jarvis Landry. The Browns’ first touchdown of the game was a trick play in which Landry threw a bomb to the corner of the end zone to Beckham. The college teammates rejoiced that they’d finally been given a chance to ball out, and against America’s Team no less.
If the Browns can hold on, they’ll improve to 3-1, despite the theatrics that it took to get to this point. Such a record would be good enough for a second-place tie in the AFC North record-wise, despite the Ravens head-to-head win in Week 1.
