Dak Prescott injury update: Cowboys provide estimated recovery timeline
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott underwent successful surgery to repair the compound fracture of his right ankle and is expected to miss four-six months.
Dak Prescott is expected to make a full recovery from the gruesome compound ankle fracture he suffered in Sunday’s win over the New York Giants.
The Dallas Cowboys quarterback was taken to the hospital immediately after and underwent surgery to repair the fracture, which will have him sidelined for the next four-six months, according to Todd Archer.
Prescott is out for the season, but the injury recovery timeline suggests Prescott could be healthy as early as around the time of the Super Bowl in early February, but if it’s the longer timeline, he would still be cleared around the start of free agency in March.
Dak Prescott is expected to be sidelined 4-6 months
The Cowboys and Prescott had an elongated contract drama last offseason with the former fourth-round pick out of Mississippi State playing on the franchise tag after the two sides were unable to come to terms on a long-term contract.
Due to the injury, it’s unlikely a long-term contract will be reached between him and the Cowboys for the 2021 season, but it doesn’t mean it’s a foregone conclusion that he will not be with the Cowboys next season either. It’s possible he could be tagged again if the Cowboys are encouraged by his recovery and convinced he’ll return to the type of player he was prior to the injury.
That would allow Dak to play on another prove-it deal, albeit with no assurances of long-term security should he suffer another devastating injury.
