No.2: Minnesota gets their QB of the future

Six weeks into the 2020 season, and we can confidently say that Kirk Cousins isn’t the answer under center for the Vikings. After pulling off a tremendous playoff upset over the New Orleans Saints last year, Minnesota gave Cousins a two-year contract extension. That proved to be a costly mistake for Minnesota, and have no solid backup option in case Cousins were to go down with injury or played to the point where he deserved a benching.

Luckily, the Washington Football Team has a quarterback that they would like to part ways with. Dwayne Haskins, the team’s 2019 first-round selection, was put in a terrible situation from the get-go. He was a pick of owner Dan Snyder, and didn’t receive a glowing endorsement from then-head coach Jay Gruden.

After letting go of Gruden, the team hired Ron Rivera this offseason, who’s first move was to acquire former Carolina Panthers signal caller Kyle Allen. After starting the first four games, Haskins was demoted to third-string, behind Alex Smith.

With this depth chart adjustment, Washington essentially tanked any trade value they could have gotten for Haskins. That works to the benefit of Minnesota, as they can send over a Day 3 draft pick to Washington to take Haskins off their hands. Getting to learn from offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak could be just what Haskins needs to revitalize his NFL career.
