This year, it looked as though Kellen Moore was going to make the Dallas Cowboys a vertical threat. Yes, the offense would still be highly constructed around Ezekiel Elliott. However, over the first few games, this offense had a lot of space to work with downfield, which is why the team has one of the best units in the NFL.

Unfortunately, Dak Prescott sustained an injury in the team’s Week 5 win against the New York Giants, and he will be out for the remainder of the season. Now, it is up to veteran Andy Dalton.

What does Dalton’s presence mean? Moore will likely lean on that run. He will not completely abandon the downfield plays due to the talent at receiver. But, it is fair to expect some more rushing plays.

Meaning, Tony Pollard should get more reps.

In order to keep Elliott as healthy and fresh as possible, Moore will likely cycle he and Pollard out more than usual as both backs get more attention with Dalton under center. In Week 5 against the Giants, he had six rushes for 30 yards.

The Cowboys will travel down to Washington D.C. to play the Washington Football Team in Week 7. Washington has not been a fantastic team defending running backs on the ground. In a potentially colder game on the road in outdoor conditions without Prescott, Pollard could still see a lot of reps in Week 7.
