2021 NFL Free Agency predictions: Quarterbacks will be on the move
11. Rob Gronkowski retires (again)
Buccaneers fans were hopeful that Gronkowski’s return to the NFL would be just as productive as Brady’s decision to leave the Patriots for Tampa Bay. Unfortunately, at this point in the season, it looks like Gronk is simply riding Brady’s coattails.
It’s fair to wonder whether or not the tight end regrets his decision to return to football. He has a great chance to correct that possible error in the offseason. He can simply ride back off into the sunset of retirement once again.
That decision would serve as a relief of sorts for Tampa Bay’s front office. Brady has the locker room influence required to effectively force the team to re-sign him. Gronkowski isn’t the sort of player to accept anything less than a top salary for a tight end.
That’s why Gronkowski is going to do everyone a favor and hang his spikes up, again, after the conclusion of the 2020 season. Rumors of another sensational return may continue to ruminate for a while longer, but the harsh truth is that he just hasn’t been a good player since coming back into the league.
