Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has apologized after his horrendous showing in the blowout loss against the Arizona Cardinals.

With Dak Prescott going down with his season-ending ankle injury, Dallas Cowboys fans everywhere were looking at Ezekiel Elliott to step his game up and become the leader of this offense and team. Against the Arizona Cardinals, the opposite turned out to be the case.

In Arizona’s 38-10 victory, Elliott had undoubtedly his worst game of the season, rushing for 49 yards on 12 carries. Even worse, Elliott fumbled the ball twice in the first half, which the Cardinals jumped on. Both turnovers led to Arizona touchdowns.

Following the Monday Night Football loss, Elliott didn’t hold back in calling himself out for his terrible performance.

Ezekiel Elliott knows his performance against Arizona wasn’t close to good enough for Dallas

Surprisingly, fumbles have become a huge issue for Elliott early on this season, as he’s coughed the ball up five times in six games. Even more worrying, he’s fumbled the pigskin seven times in his last 13 games. What in the heck is going on?

“I want to say that I’m sorry and this one’s on me and I just need to be better for this team,” a passionate Elliott said after Monday’s loss.

When Elliott is in form, he’s one of the best running backs in the league. That’s why Jerry Jones rewarded him with his $90 million deal during the offseason. With him being paid so handsomely, the organization expects him to live up to his contract, not rush for less than 50 yards and turn the ball over twice in a primetime showdown.

Following the loss to the Cards, Dallas is now 2-4 on the year. If they want to turn things around, it’ll be on Elliott to get things moving in the right direction.
