Ryan Fitzpatrick could be a step up for the Browns over Baker Mayfield

The season has been a bit of a roller-coaster for the Cleveland Browns. Despite being 4-2 on the year, Cleveland has been blown out by both the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens, two of the best teams in the AFC. As good as Cleveland has looked at times on offense, the Steelers and Ravens brought them back to earth.

In those two losses, Baker Mayfield looked absolutely horrendous trying to move the ball around. In the Week 6 loss to the Steelers, the former No. 1 overall pick ended up getting benched in the middle of the blowout in favor of veteran Case Keenum.

For a team that has postseason aspirations, seeing their franchise quarterback play like dirt in big games is a terrible feeling. So, how about Fitzpatrick heading to town? Should Mayfield continue to struggle in big games, there’s just no trusting Keenum to lead this team. Fitzpatrick is a gamer, which we’ve learned time and time again.

Earlier this year, Fitzpatrick powered Miami to a huge upset win over the San Francisco 49ers. In that victory, he threw for 350 yards and three touchdowns. He looked way better than Jimmy Garoppolo that day too.

In a worse-case scenario, Fitzpatrick could motivate Mayfield to step his game up, or take the job from him and help the Browns offense reach its maximum potential. We don’t think Odell Beckham Jr. would mind that one bit.
