College football DFS running back picks October 23:

Top Tier:

As good as the Louisiana running game is, it’s still a committee, and one that didn’t afford Mitchell many carries last week. There’s no reason to gamble on Mitchell when you have two elite options in D’Vonte Price, who is averaging more than ten yards per carry and is playing a FCS team, and Sterling Brown.

The Louisiana defense moves Brown down a notch on my list, but I’ll use both him and Price if I can afford it.

Middle Tier:

Trey Ragas had the most carries for the Cajuns last week and makes for a solid option against UAB. The Blazers have done better against the pass than the run so far, so Ragas seems like a nice pick. T.K. Wilkerson is worth a look, but he has almost no upside.

Johnny Ford has the upside, but Tulsa is also the best run defense on the slate. Considering Ford was hobbled against Temple, this doesn’t look like a great place to take a chance on him. However, South Florida now has a quarterback with a pulse and Ford has 14 receptions out of the backfield already. The receptions can help save an otherwise subpar game.

Bargain Shoppers:

Shaun Peterson had a good game against Middle Tennessee State and should see plenty of work as Price’s backup. FIU should have all kinds of running lanes here, so Peterson makes for an interesting punt.

Considering Wilkerson’s lack of wiggle, Deneric Prince is an interesting hedge option. He led Tulsa in carries against Oklahoma State and has the most upside of the Tulsa backs. All he needs is the carries, which seem to be split with little rhyme or reason right now.
