4. RB Frank Gore

Gore, at 37 years old on a one-year deal, is just the kind of player the Jets should be looking to trade. The fly in that ointment is Gase’s clear affinity for the veteran back, and it’s safe to say there won’t be a lot of interest in him.

But the Jets should clear the decks for rookie Lamical Perine to be their lead back for the rest of the season, and Ty Johnson even showed a little something in Week 6 (42 yards on three carries). As long as Gore and his 3.3 yards per carry this season is around, with inexplicable passing game usage in Week 6 (a season-high four catches on four targets) he’ll be taking valuable work away from Perine in particular. Even with some bumps in the road likely for the rookie back, giving Gore 15-20 touches a game (like he’s had in four of six games thus far) is a waste.

After the Week 6 shutout loss to the Miami Dolphins, Gore used colorful language to express frustration. It wasn’t a trade demand, but Gore should be open to a move elsewhere.

Even if they can only get a conditional late-round draft pick in return, the Jets should move Gore if at all possible. It would best for him, and better for the team with the future in mind.
