Jets quotes about playing the Chiefs next week are hilarious

The New York Jets are hyping themselves up by saying they have a chance to beat the Kansas City Chiefs. They don’t.

On Sunday, the New York Jets appeared to be on the verge of upsetting the Buffalo Bills. But then, the team collapsed in the second half, allowing the Bills to win 18-10. Things don’t get any easier for the Jets next week, as they hit the road to face the Kansas City Chiefs, the defending Super Bowl champions.

Even though the Chiefs are 20-point favorites against them, the Jets are mighty confident that they could pull off a massive upset. Stop laughing!

The Jets think they can pull off the upset of the century

“Every time you line up to play, you have a chance to win,” Jets guard Greg Van Roten said, via the New York Post. “It doesn’t matter what your record is or who you’re playing against. You’ve still got to play the game and make the plays and try your best. I don’t think anybody is going to shy away from this opportunity. I’m looking forward to playing quote-unquote the best.

“We have a great test this week to see what we’re made of. Our record is what it is. That’s who we are right now. We have a chance to go play a really good team at home. They won the Super Bowl last year. If you can’t get excited about that. If you can’t find a way to get up for that game, then there’s something wrong with you.”

Are you done laughing? Good. You can’t expect a team like the Jets to say, “Yeah, we have no shot against the Chiefs this week.” That’d be terrible optics for the organization. You can admire Van Roten for trying to rile up the troops, but it’s hard to envision an anemic 0-7 team can out-duel the Chiefs.

The Jets are statistically the worst offense in the entire league, as they rank dead-last in total yards (264.3) and points per game (12.1). It certainly doesn’t help that they face a Chiefs defense that has allowed nine passing touchdowns and forced nine interceptions, which is bad news for quarterback Sam Darnold and his weakened receiving corps.

To make matters worse, they face a Chiefs offense that has put up 398.3 yards of offense per game (seventh-most in NFL) and accumulated an average of 31.1 points scored per game (fifth-most). The Jets, whom have allowed 29 points per game (ninth-most), have to try and stop Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, Clyde Edwards-Helaire and their former running back in Le’Veon Bell.

The Jets, of course, want to send out the message that they’re ready to give Kansas City a fight. It’s just that we, and all other NFL fans, don’t see it happening.
