Debo Samuel’s hurt again and Brandon Aiuyk is — while spectacular — still a rookie. Last season, Emmanuel Sanders became the leading target for Jimmy Garoppolo when he entered the Bay, thus keeping the offense alive on their way to the Super Bowl.

Veteran talent means something to a struggling offense. For the 49ers, there isn’t a solidified No.3 option at receiver. Kendrick Bourne has struggled while Trent Taylor is best used as a No.4 option. Dante Pettis is on the trading block, so this could lead to saving John Lynch a draft pick.

Tate for a late-round pick and Pettis seems like a win-win for both sides. New York adds to their draft haul in 2021 while grabbing a young receiver who could blossom in the Big Apple. Tate joins a team in the hunt for a playoff berth and frees up space for George Kittle and Samuel as go-to targets. Plus in this system, he would remain at his natural slot role, a huge to Garoppolo on third-down conversions.
