4 teams that should trade for Odell Beckham Jr. during the offseason
1. Green Bay Packers
The Packers could swing a deal for a wide receiver before the trade deadline (Tuesday afternoon as I write this), and if he’d been healthy if could have very well have been Beckham. The idea of a deal for Michael Thomas was interesting for a minute when that speculation surfaced, but he’s also not healthy right now (hamstring/ankle) and the Saints aren’t inclined to trade him.
The Packers may have drafted his successor this year (Jordan Love), but as a practical matter they are still in the middle of an all-in window with Aaron Rodgers under center. Davante Adams is one of the league’s best wide receivers, but finding a notable running mate for him may still be on the radar come the offseason.
As is the case for a lot of teams with the salary cap set to drop, Green Bay’s cap situation doesn’t look great for 2021. But they could surely restructure some deals and/or make some cuts to make room for a notable veteran, and they may send a player/salary back to Cleveland in a trade for Beckham.
Beckham may not love the idea of playing in small market Green Bay. But the prospect of playing with a future Hall of Fame quarterback, who has shown this year that he’s far from done, is definitely appealing. If the Browns finally do make real effort to move Beckham, the Packers have to be among the teams with the most interest.
