Matthew Stafford’s entire family tested negative for COVID-19

Great news has arrived out of Detroit, as it has been revealed Matthew Stafford’s entire family has tested negative for the coronavirus. 

Plenty of worries arrived for the Detroit Lions and their fanbase on Wednesday, as star quarterback Matthew Stafford was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. At the time, it was completely up in the air if Stafford had been in close contact with the virus, or if he had tested positive. Now, Lions fans can rest easy.

On Thursday, Stafford’s wife took to Instagram to let everyone know the entire family had tested negative for COVID-19, including the Lions signal-caller.

“Okay y’all, I appreciate everyone reaching out and giving us well wishes,” Stafford posted on her Instagram story, with a mask hanging from her ear. “We are fine. We are all negative (for COVID-19). My husband is negative. There was just a certain exposure. We have all been testing since the exposure.”

As you might imagine, the entire Detroit front office must be incredibly relieved to find out about Stafford’s negative test. The Lions have a massive NFC North game this weekend against Minnesota, a team that went to Lambeau Field last week and took down Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.

In order for Detroit to have a shot in that game, they’ll need Stafford to be on the field. Per ESPN insider Adam Schefter, Stafford is eligible to come off the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Sunday and suit up to face the Vikings with negative tests. Thursday’s update from his wife certainly makes it feel like the veteran quarterback will be able to suit up in the coming days.

On the season, Stafford has thrown for 1,916 yards and 13 touchdowns. Unfortunately for him, the Lions have been inconsistent on the year and hold a 3-4 mark. However, a win over the Vikings could get them back to .500 and boost their confidence for the second half of the season. Stay tuned to see if Stafford will be able to play and get that job done.
