David Alaba might be closing in on a move to England.

Bayern Munich’s run of dominance in Germany and Europe as a whole would not have come to fruition without the services of defender David Alaba, who was a consistent starter for the last half-decade. However, his time in Bayern red could be coming to an end after a five-year contract offer was withdrawn. If Alaba wants to leave Bayern for greener pastures, he will have his pick of Premier League teams.

While Liverpool has been after him for some time, The Daily Mail is reporting that Pep Guardiola and Manchester City will also extend some feelers out for the Austrian international and perennial Bundesliga champion.

David Alaba is one of the most versatile players in the game

While he plays in central midfield and even as an attacking midfielder on the Austrian national team, Alaba rose through the ranks at Bayern and quickly became one of the best left-backs in the world. In order to conform to Hansi Flick’s style and to make way for the exciting Alphonso Davies, Alaba moved to center back.

While Manchester City signs a new center-back every other week, none of them seem to be performing at the level Pep Guardiola expected. Alaba would instantly be able to start for them. With Virgil Van Dijk out for months with a torn ACL and Joe Gomez seemingly destined to stay in the “very good” tier and never ascend to elite, former Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp could make a move for him.

Alaba is just 28 years old and has plenty of good years left. Even if his time at Bayern is coming to a close, some of the world’s best teams will be interested in bringing him in and plugging him in right away.

Next. Liverpool will spend big in January. dark
