NBA Draft 2020: 5 best fits for Tyrese Maxey
By Mike Luciano
The last two playoff spots in the East have been completely up for grabs over the last few years, but Orlando has managed to make it to the postseason in two straight years. Nikola Vucevic remains one of the most underrated players at any position in the league, and Aaron Gordon’s athletic ability still is very impressive. However, the lack of perimeter scoring is what has doomed them against the East’s elite, as expecting Evan Fournier by himself to outscore some of the best guards in the sport is complete lunacy. One of the best hypothetical picks in this first round, both in terms of positional need and value, would be the Magic picking Maxey.
A lineup with the resurgent Markelle Fultz at point guard, Maxey playing shooting guard, and Fournier as a wing could both help them replace Jonathan Isaac this year and help take attention away from Gordon and Vucevic inside. This might not be a good enough lineup to win a playoff series in 2020-21, but it would be a solid foundation that could eventually turn Orlando into a contender.
