3. Anthony Lynn vs. Unemployment Line

Losing on the last play of the game in back-to-back weeks doesn’t mean much for Justin Herbert’s long-term future in Los Angeles. It does, however, but his head coach under immense pressure to turn the team’s fortunes around immediately.

The Chargers head to Miami this week in an intriguing matchup between young quarterbacks. Herbert’s exceeded his rookie expectations by a mile, while Tua Tagovailoa is just getting started in Miami. It’s the Dolphins who find themselves in the hunt for a postseason berth though. Their 5-3 record might flatter their performance on the season, but it still puts them in great position to make the playoffs.

It’s still a very winnable game for Los Angeles. In fact, it might be a must-win for Lynn if he wants to hang on to his job. There were already significant rumblings about his job security before he lost to the Raiders last week. A loss to the Dolphins could send him to the unemployment line.

Look for the Chargers to play hard for their embattled head coach. Whatever Lynn lacks as a tactician and game manager he partially makes up for in his ability to inspire his team. This group won’t go down without a fight. That makes this matchup one of the most competitive games of the weekend.
