Paul George trolls himself in hilarious birthday message to fiance

The Los Angeles Clippers forward showed that he has a sense of humor about his NBA career

Los Angeles Clippers forward Paul George has taken a ton of flak in recent months. Between not putting up superstar-level production inside the NBA bubble, to the Clippers shockingly blowing a 3-1 series lead to the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference Semifinals, it’s been a rough go of it. While George didn’t win on the court, he did win off of it.

Earlier this week, it was revealed across all social media platforms that George proposed to girlfriend Daniela Rajic. On Thursday, the Clippers star wished Rajic a happy birthday on Instagram, and he poked fun of himself by saying she got a ring before he did.

George has no rings, but it’s not all his fault

That’s right, George used the “no ring” joke before Instagram trolls in the comments to beat him to it. Good work!

George caught plenty of flak from NBA fans, pundits and even some of his colleagues back in 2018 when he dubbed himself “Playoff P,” during his time with the Oklahoma City Thunder. That fun quote came back to haunt George, as the Thunder were eliminated by the Utah Jazz in the first-round of the playoffs that season. The following postseason, George infamously failed to guard Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers, who hit a game-winning three-pointer over him from the center-court logo to once again suffer a first-round exit.

Things were supposed to be different for George this season, as he joined a loaded Clippers roster and got to work alongside 2019 NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard. But the guard struggled mightily in their 13 playoff games, where he averaged 20.2 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.8 assists, while shooting 39.8-percent from the field and 33.3-percent from behind the arc. No one knows more about not playing up to his potential than George himself.

Sure, he might not have a championship ring, but he’s going to be wearing a wedding ring soon. And you have to respect his sense of humor, as some athletes would never break the fourth wall at their own expense.
