Titans’ punter Trevor Daniel is having the worst night ever (Video)
There isn’t a worse night for a punter than the one Trevor Daniel is having
A punter’s job is fairly easy: make a kick, down it deep and hopefully save a touchdown with a tackle if you’re lucky. For Tennessee Titans Trevor Daniel, that’s much easier said than done.
During the third quarter, Daniel was asked to lay down a kick from the team’s 10-yard line against the Indianapolis Colts. Call it wind, call it bad form, call it whatever. The ball only traveled 17 yards, setting up the Colts with excellent field position at the Titans’ 27.
Nyheim Hines would score on the following drive thanks to a two-yard run to give the Colts a 20-17 lead.
One drive later, Daniel was at it again, though this time, we can’t blame it all of him. Thanks to poor blocking up front, the former Texans’ punter was met by a sea of Colts defenders ready to block the punt. One got their hand on the ball, leading to an eventual return by T.J. Carrie for the score, adding to the Colts 27-17 lead to close out the third quarter.
A bad day for Daniel could be the end of his time with the Titans
As painful as it to admit, special teams players are easily replaceable. One bad kick or a muffed punt usually leads to a fine warning before the team looks elsewhere. Two just officially leads to one heading out the door.
Daniel recently was elevated from the Titans’ practice squad to handle punting duties on a short week. If he’s lucky, he’ll just be heading back down instead of looking for employment elsewhere before the end of the week.
