Yu Darvish has classy response to second-place Cy Young finish

Chicago Cubs ace Yu Darvish showed nothing but class after he finished in second place of the NL Cy Young voting behind Trevor Bauer. 

After an incredible 2020 campaign, Yu Darvish found himself in the hunt to take home the NL Cy Young Award. Alas, it just wasn’t meant to be for him this fall, as Trevor Bauer took home the honors.

While Chicago Cubs fans everywhere are extremely disappointed by the results, the same can’t be said for Darvish. On Wednesday night, the standout hurler took to Twitter to post a classy message in response of him finishing in second place.

While his Twitter post was published in Japanese, the message translated in English revealed how Darvish didn’t feel frustrated over coming in second. Instead, he was happy because he entered the season hoping to pitch at the same level as Justin Verlander, Jacob deGrom and Gerrit Cole.

That mission was most certainly accomplished, as Darvish went 8-3 on the year, with a 2.01 ERA and 93 strikeouts. His eight wins tied for the most in the league. Although the Cubs weren’t able to go on a deep postseason run and compete for another World Series, Darvish lived up to his massive hype and had one of his best campaigns to date.

Looking ahead to 2021, Darvish will look to keep going with his brilliant ways on the bump. In order for Chicago to have a chance of making serious noise in the NL next season, they’ll need Darvish to power the rotation, while the big bats will need to step up and deliver as well.

If Darvish pitches at a similar next season to what he showed us all this past summer, it could be a year to remember for the Cubbies.
