3 fantasy football waiver wire replacements for Christian McCaffrey
Perine has been sharing work with Adam Gase’s BFF Frank Gore, but coming out of a Week 10 bye it finally looks like the 0-9 Jets will give up that aged ghost.
Perine played 70 percent of the snaps in Week 7 against the Buffalo Bills, and he delivered 40 yards and touchdown on 11 carries as well as two catches for 16 yards. That was good for 13.6 full PPR points, and he was RB16 (standard) and RB18 (full and 0.5-point PPR) for the week.
In Week 11 the Jets will play the Los Angeles Chargers, who are allowing the 11th-most fantasy points per game to running backs (Yahoo! 0.5-point PPR). They haven’t been particularly generous to opposing backs in any one area, but it’s added up to being bottom half of the league against the position and they’ve allowed a rushing score to a running a back in four straight games.
Here are how backs with at least 14 carries have done against the Chargers lately (Yahoo! 0.5-point PPR).
Week 7: James Robinson-22 carries for 119 yards, 1 TD; four catches for 18 yards, 1 TD-29.7 fantasy points
Week 9: Josh Jacobs-14 carries for 65 yards, 1 TD; one catch for three yards-13.3 fantasy points
Week 10; Salvon Ahmed-21 carries for 85 yards, 1 TD; one catch for five yards-15.5 fantasy points
Phillip Lindsay (six carries for 83 yards, 1 TD in Week 8) and Devontae Booker (eight carries for 68 yards, 1 TD in Week 9) also delivered some fantasy numbers against the Chargers in recent weeks.
Joe Flacco will make another start for the Jets on Sunday, as Sam Darnold (shoulder) remains out. So Perine should get a lot of work, and even 10-15 touches would position him to produce in a pretty good matchup. Don’t dismiss him just because of the Jets’ factor.
