More importantly, the Dallas’ running game was in fine form, rolling up 180 yards thanks mainly to Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard.
Houston’s run defense had another long afternoon in Cleveland and now took on the New England Patriots and their potent ground attack. But similar to a year ago when Deshaun Watson had a big Sunday night vs. the Pats, the fourth-year quarterback was not sacked, threw for 344 yards and two scores and also ran for a touchdown.
Nine different players caught passes for Houston. And the Texans limited New England to 86 yards on the ground.
Matt Patricia’s club had been pretty successful on the road this season as the Lions – with a chance to get to .500 – headed to Charlotte to face the slumping Panthers.
But the Detroit offense as a no-show in Carolina as the club ran for only 40 yards and the team gained only 185 total yards in being shut out. Matthew Stafford was sacked five times and threw for only 178 yards. The Lions averaged just 3.4 yards per play and owned the ball for only 23:12.
