2. Obvious intentional grounding

An argument can be made that Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz was outside of the tackle box on this play, but that doesn’t take into account the obvious nature of his desperation heave. Wentz was perhaps barely outside of the pocket, sure. But there was no receiver remotely near where he threw the ball, besides the Seahawks sideline attendant, of course.

More importantly, Wentz’s throw didn’t reach the line of scrimmage, which is a requirement on any throw-away. The officials had a clear view of the play, but didn’t take into account the most obvious facets of the rule. The Seahawks would defeat the Eagles on Monday night, but not without a little frustration with the officials, and rightly so.
