1. Philadelphia Phillies

Will such a move satisfy the starving Philadelphia sports fan? We kid, of course, but it seems more likely by the day that the Phillies aren’t going to bring back Realmuto because of financial reasons. Rather than opting to sign a replacement, the Phillies could trade for a player of similar caliber in Willson Contreras.

Andrew Knapp isn’t going to cut it. The Phillies signed Realmuto’s backup to appease absolutely no one, and if the front office assumes that’ll be enough to field a contending team they’re sorely mistaken. Adding Contreras to the middle of the lineup with Bryce Harper makes a lot of sense, and while he’s not the same level of hitter Realmuto is, he’s close. Contreras made back-to-back All-Star teams in 2018 and 2019 for a reason, and at his best can supply a .270 average and 20+ home runs from the catcher position. That’s tough to mirror on any MLB team these days.
