While Lamar Jackson has taken a bit of a step back from last year’s brilliant MVP season, not all of it can be blamed on the quarterback himself. On top of offensive coordinator Greg Roman’s extremely basic passing offense, the lack of stud wide receivers around Jackson had really hampered him. The jury is still out on Devin Duvernay, Miles Boykin looks like a garden-variety receiver, and Marquise Brown appears to be more at home running the 100-meter dash than being a featured receiving option in an NFL passing attack. Things have gotten so bad they’ve pulled Dez Bryant out of semi-retirement to take a few snaps.

The Ravens need to find someone that Jackson can find open over the middle of the field and deep down the sideline with regularity, and Smith makes a ton of sense.

Smith combines the speed of Brown, the verticality of Boykin, and yards-after-catch skills of Duvernay all in one package, all the while showing off an ability to make contested catchers a great rate for someone his size and tremendous route-running ability. Like him or not, Jackson is staying around for the long haul in Baltimore, and Eric DeCosta needs to surround him with perimeter talent. Even if they need to trade up for him, it’s a risk they will have to take to prolong Jackson’s prime.
