College football DFS running back picks December 12:

Top Tier:

I know that this is a great spot for Ronnie Rivers, but what if his leg is still bugging? New Mexico is weaker against the pass anyway. Jermar Jefferson is said to be fine and Stanford has given up 201 rushing yards per game and 11 rushing touchdowns in only four games. Pay the price for Jefferson. He’s worth it. Just look at what he did to Oregon in the Civil War.

Austin Jones might be the best play on the entire slate. Oregon State is allowing 206.4 rushing yards per game and has surrendered 10 rushing touchdowns in five games. Jefferson may have more upside, but the floor on Jones may be the highest of any player at any position.

Middle Tier:

I’m not a huge fan of running at the very good San Diego State run defense. The other alternative in this tier aren’t all that great either. If you play Calvin Turner, it’s mostly for the receptions out of the backfield. Those should be plentiful against UNLV, but it also makes him a bit of a risk.

Bobby Cole is a really interesting pick. He went for 131 yards on a Wyoming rush defense that was allowing less than 100 yards on the ground per game. New Mexico will likely try to shorten the game on the ground again, so the volume on Cole makes him worth a look for this price.

Bargain Shoppers:

I’m still a big fan of Charles Williams here. Hawaii has been abused on the ground, allowing 232.7 rushing yards per game and 15 ground touchdowns in seven games. Hawaii is going to try to put UNLV in a hole so big they have no choice but to pass. That might work, but Williams should get at least one or two long runs and a touchdown before that happens.

All of the San Diego State backs are risky here. Nathaniel Jones still hit double digit carries last week despite the success of Cole and has the most guaranteed touches of any bargain back. Miles Reed is still an intriguing pick as well. Chance Bell is cheap and could be a bargain if SDSU decides to ride him with Greg Bell out.
