Edge returns at the 2020 Royal Rumble

If you had said at the start of 2020 that one of the biggest returns of the year would be the “Rated R Superstar” Edge, you would’ve been called everything but a sane and logical human being. But our final entry on the biggest shocks of the year falls in the hands of Edge, and his return at the Royal Rumble in Houston.

Edge was forced to retire in 2011 after having neck surgery, and it was thought that we’d never see the former WWE Champion again. But after spending the last few years working out and seeing doctors, he found out that a return to the ring may actually be a possibility. So on January 26, he did just that when he caused a social media meltdown as the #21 entry into the Royal Rumble.

What ensued was a rivalry with former Rated RKO tag team partner Randy Orton, which led to a match at WrestleMania. The two would collide again at Backlash, which proved to be costly for Edge. During the match, he suffered a torn tricep and has been out of action since.

But the shock and awe on everyone’s faces when his music hit, bringing him to the ring for the first time in almost a decade, was without question the biggest entry on our list. As of this writing, Edge is still sidelined as he continues to rehab the injury. The idea is that he could be back in time for WrestleMania 37, but that’s still several months away and a lot could happen in that time frame.

The idea of Edge being back in the ring, even on a limited basis, opens up a world of fantasy matches. If he can return healthy and manage to avoid any further complications, the possibilities are endless for the Rated R Superstar.

So there you have it. Five of the biggest WWE shocks of 2020. Are these accurate? What could’ve been included? Sound off and let’s see what everyone thinks.
